Despite the effectiveness of therapy, only about 35% of those struggling with anxiety, stress, and trauma seek professional help. If you're feeling overwhelmed despite your efforts, you're not alone.

During therapy, we'll explore your unique triggers, emotions, and thoughts to understand and address your distress. Together, we'll develop strategies to manage anxiety and stress, empowering you to proactively quiet your mind. In a supportive environment, you'll have space to address the root causes of your concerns.

We also focus on addressing common mental health concerns like depression and trauma to enhance your overall well-being.

Below, I've briefly explained what trauma and depression are and how we can improve them through therapy.

Trauma

Trauma can be abuse, assault, or facing a near death experience. Trauma can also happen from unhealthy relationships. Trauma may be a repeated event or one time occurrence.

Some examples of trauma include: Physical or verbal abuse, Loss, Witnessing abuse, Infidelity, Accidents or injuries, Living in fearful environment, An ongoing situation that causes distress or fear, Invalidating environments, Bullying. Experiencing a trauma is very common. In fact, five to six out of ten people experience a minimum of one trauma in their lifetime. After a trauma, some people develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) while others do not. The impact of trauma can present differently in every person.

Know that you do not have to keep feeling the way you are right now, and you do not have to deal with this alone. Trauma therapy can help you feel mentally and physically better. In working with the mental health therapist, you will have a safe and confidential space to work towards helping you heal from the trauma and the impact on your life.

During the first therapy appointments, we will work with you to establish trust and understand your experiences. You will likely also talk about goals. Your trauma therapist will go at your own pace and will not push you beyond what you are ready for. You may be ready to talk about your trauma or you may not, and both are okay. Therapy for trauma may be focused on how to ground and calm yourself when you are feeling distressed, how to set appropriate boundaries and when you need these boundaries, and how to feel relief of symptoms. When you are ready, therapy may move towards processing the trauma. Your trauma therapist will be   with you to process the painful emotions, thoughts, memories, and the impact the way they effect you.

Some of the things you may notice changing during therapy for depression include:

  • Improved mood and outlook on life.

  • Increased energy and motivation

  • Better sleep quality and patterns

  • More enjoyment in activities.

  • Greater sense of hope and optimism for the future

  • Reduction in feelings of sadness and hopelessness.

  • Greater engagement in relationships and daily life.

Depression

Maybe you look at other people and wonder why are they so happy and how can you be happy like them. Maybe you feel like you have so much to be grateful for, it doesn’t make sense why you are struggling. It is as if you have grey colored sunglasses on. Even on a beautiful a day, the world can seem more dull and gloomy.  It is possible you wear those sunglasses a lot, or maybe they come on and off throughout the week or day. You just wish they were gone and sadness wasn’t a part of your present story. You want to just enjoy your life and live in the moment. You also may be wondering if depression therapy can help you feel better. It doesn’t matter if you have a great family, friends, job, or all the money in the world. Feelings of sadness and depression do not care. Anyone can experience depression or feelings of sadness regardless of their life circumstances. Some people may feel sad for no reason that makes any logical sense to them. Other times people can develop feelings of sadness or depression after a big change or loss.

In therapy for depression, you will come to better understand the cause of your depression or feelings of sadness. We will provide you with skills to navigate negative self-talk. We will work with you on making changes in your thinking which will impact how you feel and what you do. We also will talk about behavior changes you can make in your day-to-day life to help you feel better. You will have concrete skills that you can use to help improve your mood. Therapy teaches you skills to help change your thinking and behaviors. Therapy for depression also helps you work through feelings of sadness, loneliness, or frustration.  You will have a comfortable space where you can meet with an expert in depression. You also don’t have to leave your home. You can curl up with a blanket, cup of tea, and speak to me from your own couch trough an online session.
